On-Site Supervision

Protecting the design vision from drawings to reality.

Start Your Project

A great design does not end when the drawings are approved. In many ways, that is when the most important part begins.

Once construction starts, every drawing, material, dimension, finish, and detail must be translated into physical reality. Different contractors begin working, materials arrive on site, technical conditions become clearer, and decisions that once existed only on paper suddenly have practical consequences.

Design supervision is not simply about asking whether a contractor has completed a particular task. We look at how the work has been completed. Our team reviews workmanship, dimensions, finishes, installation details, material applications, and the relationship between different elements of the project.

Quality cannot be inspected into a project at the very end. It must be protected throughout the process. A concealed installation needs to be correct before the ceiling is closed. Electrical points need to be coordinated before finishes are completed. Stone details need to be checked before adjacent elements are installed. Custom furniture needs to be reviewed before production and installation. Early attention reduces the possibility of costly corrections later.

Construction is rarely perfectly predictable. Existing conditions may differ from drawings. A material may require adjustment. A contractor may propose an alternative method. Our team considers design intent, technical requirements, functionality, quality, cost, and construction practicality before recommending an appropriate solution — to preserve the character of the design while responding intelligently to the realities of construction.

This service is available as a standalone engagement for projects designed elsewhere, or as a continuation of a full Stones Jordan® design project.

What defines this service. Supervisors with a design background, not just inspectors. Problems caught before they are covered over. Written reports after every site visit. Available as standalone or with a Stones Jordan® design.

What's included. Regular scheduled site visits and inspections. Contractor coordination and instruction. Material and workmanship review against specifications. Written progress reports to client. Issue identification and resolution. Final handover inspection and punch list.

Who this service is for. Projects already designed but about to start construction. Clients who travel frequently or live abroad. High-value finishes where errors are costly. Projects with complex custom elements.

Drawing Review. We review approved drawings and specifications to understand design intent.

Scope & Schedule Agreement. Site visit frequency, reporting format, and responsibilities agreed in writing.

Scheduled Site Visits. Regular inspections: materials checked, workmanship observed, deviations documented.

Written Progress Reports. After every visit: photos, observations, issues raised, client actions required.

Final Inspection & Snagging. Pre-handover inspection, documented snagging list, verification of corrections.

Can supervision be added after design is complete? Yes. We regularly provide supervision for projects designed by other firms. To do so effectively, we review the existing drawings, understand the approved design intent, and assess the current site conditions before agreeing the supervision scope. On-site supervision is most effective when the drawings are complete and buildable.

What happens when a contractor deviates from the drawings? When we identify a deviation, we document it, photograph it, and raise it directly with the contractor. We report it to the client in writing. Minor deviations are corrected on site. Significant deviations that affect the design intent, structural elements, or material specification are escalated to the client for a formal decision. Nothing is verbally resolved and forgotten.

Is supervision available for a project I designed myself? Yes, provided we can review and understand the design documentation before agreeing to supervise. We need to be able to verify what was designed and approved in order to check construction against it. We will be honest if the existing documentation is not detailed enough to supervise from effectively.View all service questions
