Interior design supervision should be defined before construction begins. The agreement should state visit frequency, reporting, reviewed information, exclusions and how urgent decisions are handled.
Contractors remain responsible for construction methods, labour, safety and physical execution unless a contract explicitly states otherwise. The designer’s role is to review visible work against approved design information within the agreed scope.
Site reviews can identify dimensional conflicts, material substitutions, incomplete details and deviations. Recording these matters gives the client and contractor a clear basis for action.
Supervision also depends on timely decisions. Samples, mock-ups, technical questions and proposed changes should be submitted early enough to review before installation.
A leading supervision process does not promise a problem-free site. It creates accountability by making observations, responsibilities and decisions visible.
