Design concept

A garden asked to do a lot. We gave the floor to the pool and the lounge, put the green on raised planters around the edges, and used a pergola to give the seating area privacy and shade.

The project story

K.B. lives in Riyadh. His villa is in Amman. He asked for an outdoor area that feels simple, elegant and luxurious, and he wanted to shape it without being on site.

The garden is 400 m². That sounds generous until you list what a family wants from it: a pool, a place to sit in the evening, shade, privacy, and as much green as possible. The first list did not fit. So we went through it with K.B. and ranked every item. He chose what to keep and what to let go. What stayed got room to work.

The neighbours could see into the garden. A pergola over the lounge closed that view without closing the garden in. The wall behind the lounge carries handcrafted stone wall art by Stones Luxury.

K.B. wanted green everywhere, but the floor was already spoken for. So we raised the planting. Planters in Jordanian stone, set at different heights, run along the walls. The garden reads green from every seat, and the paving stays clear for walking.

The paving is non-slip porcelain, chosen for wet feet coming out of the pool. At night, light comes from low in the planters and from strips on the walls. The garden glows without glare.

We designed it over three months in 2021, all of it remotely. K.B. saw every decision in 3D before it was drawn in detail. The lighting, irrigation and hardscape drawings are complete. Construction is planned for 2027.

Project challenge

Privacy. Neighbouring houses could see into the garden. A long list for the space. The pool, lounge, shade and planting did not all fit at full size. The client wanted a lot of greenery, with little floor space left for it.

How we designed this project remotely

K.B. lives in Riyadh. The villa is in Amman. We designed the garden from our studio in Dabouq, and he did not need to be on site for any step.

  1. Brief over a video call.
  2. Concept for the layout, seating and planting.
  3. Detailing of the planters, pergola and pool edge.
  4. 3D renders reviewed with K.B. before anything was finalised.
  5. Lighting, irrigation and hardscape drawings. The drawing package is complete and ready for construction in 2027.

Stones Jordan’s approach

A pergola over the lounge blocks the view from next door and gives shade. We ranked the requirements with the client, and he chose to drop the ones he needed least. Raised planters at different heights carry the planting along the walls, so the garden stays green without losing floor space.
